January 20, 1960    (From my journal -- I was 13 years old.)
This evening only a few minutes ago we had a phone call that Grandmother is in the hospital and wants us.  We shall go tomorrow.

January 21
We went to school as usual today.  Then at noon when I had just been skating a little while Matt came to take us home.  Everyone wondered who he was.  We changed at home and started out about quarter to three.  We had a hard time getting the car out because it was stuck.  Finally when I was stepping lightly on the gas pedal and Matt and Dad pushing we got out.  It was a long trip and we stopped at Russell and Roblin.  We were hungry so we got garlic sausage and bread at Roblin and ate it.  We got to Gilbert

went to bed about half past eleven.
