My oldest brother, Matt, was born Dec. 13, 1932.
As a young man, he enjoyed working out on a farm in Lucky
Lake, Saskatchewan.
Working in construction also appealed to Matt.
After marrying Shirley Maryniuk, Matt farmed at Shoal
Lake. Matt was very sociable and got
along very well with the neighboring colony of Hutterites. Mom
wrote: The Hutterites are here watching a show. They brought beer to drink while they are
watching.

Matt passed away on September 21, 1999. He was buried in the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox
Cemetery in Oakburn.
To our surprise, a group of Hutterite women sang “In the
sweet bye and bye” at Matt’s graveside. It
was incredibly gentle and moving.
