July 3, 2012: Aline emailed me:
Today we have a heat
wave. George has gone fishing in this heat.
Yesterday I picked fresh dill and froze it. Looks like there is going to be lots. The lettuce and spinach should be ready to
use next week.
Bet you wish now you could have canned some of that heat at
the same time as you made these pickles, Aline!
ALINE'S PARTY-MIX PICKLES
10 medium cucumbers
8 medium carrots, sliced and boiled 5 min.
1 cauliflower, cut into pieces
3 medium onions
1 green pepper, cut fine
1 red pepper, cut fine
Slice cucumbers and let them soak in a brine of 4 quarts water, 1 cup pickling salt overnight. Drain in the morning and add the rest of the vegetables.
