Today we have a heat
wave. George has gone fishing in this heat.
Yesterday I picked fresh dill and froze it. Looks like there is going to be lots. The lettuce and spinach should be ready to
use next week.


ALINE'S PARTY-MIX PICKLES
10 medium cucumbers
8 medium carrots, sliced and boiled 5 min.
1 cauliflower, cut into pieces
3 medium onions
1 green pepper, cut fine
1 red pepper, cut fine
Slice cucumbers and let them soak in a brine of 4 quarts water, 1 cup pickling salt overnight. Drain in the morning and add the rest of the vegetables.

Syrup
6 cups sugar
4 cups vinegar
2 tbsp. celery seeds
2 tbsp. mustard seeds
1 tsp. pickling salt
1 tsp. turmeric
Bring the syrup to a boil. Add the vegetables and bring to a boil again. Bottle and seal.
